Engineer-to-Order (ETO) product
designers face challenges to provide "mass
customization" of their products better, faster, and cheaper
than their competitors. An ETO automation system allows
many or all portions of the ETO process to be automated, thus
providing quicker turnaround, lower engineering costs, and
consistent adherence to product rules and standards.
ETO automation systems can
include the following capabilities:
- Configuration of a 3D
product model for use by the customer and/or sales engineer
- Automated engineering
analyses based on the 3D product model and the product's
intended usage environment
- Output of accurate layout or
general arrangement drawings for use by the customer and/or
sales engineer

drawings down to the piece-part level for internal
engineering and manufacturing use
- Generation of BOM, price
quote, work orders, and other documents
- Automated NC tool path
generation
- Data management/archiving of
various product configurations
- Secure, web-based access to
product configurations with customer access restricted to
only their own designs
